About The Position

UPMC Altoona is proud to announce the launch of the UPMC Mercy School of Nursing at Altoona, a transformative 16-month diploma program designed to empower aspiring nurses in our region. As we prepare to welcome our inaugural class in Fall 2026, we’re seeking part-time Assistant Nursing Instructors who are passionate about clinical teaching and student development. These roles will work three 8-hour days per week, Monday through Friday, during the hours of 8am - 5pm. We welcome applicants from all clinical backgrounds. Position Purpose The Assistant Nursing Instructor is a nursing professional with the authority, responsibility, and accountability for providing high‑quality clinical instruction to nursing students. This role requires strong clinical competence, sound judgment, and the ability to guide, mentor, and evaluate students as they deliver patient care during clinical practicum experiences.

Requirements

  • BSN required
  • 3 years of clinical practice, required
  • Precepting experience required; clinical teaching experience in prelicensure program preferred
  • Must be enrolled in an MSN program with a 3 year completion plan
  • Appointment to this position and retention of this position is contingent upon the approval of the PA State Board of Nursing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • CPR Certification for BLS for Health Care Providers.
  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
  • Appointment to this position and retention of this position is contingent upon the approval of the PA State Board of Nursing.
  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
