The Assistant City Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, managing, and directing the operations of the City's Engineering Services Division within the Public Works department. This role involves reviewing and approving engineering plans and permit applications, consulting with developers and contractors on capital improvement and development projects, conducting site visits, and supervising assigned personnel to ensure compliance with quality standards and regulations.

  • Interprets and explains Federal and state rules and regulations.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with Federal/State regulations, City ordinances, and engineering/design standards.
  • Supervises, trains, and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel.
  • Reviews engineering plans and calculations for compliance with standard design practices.
  • Resolves complaints and community issues; prepares and presents reports.
  • Reviews development permit applications for compliance with the City's floodplain ordinance.
  • Reviews and approves plats and related field notes for offsite easements on development projects.
  • Reviews and approves oil/gas well and pipeline permits.
  • Responds to engineering/permitting inquiries from developers, contractors, and surveyors.
  • Performs analysis of street pavement quality conditions and develops a rehabilitation schedule.
  • Coordinates repairs and rehabilitation with city crews and/or contractors as necessary.
  • Conducts job site visits to monitor satisfactory completion of work on projects.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Four years' experience in public infrastructure design and construction and project management, including two years of supervisory experience.
  • Texas Professional Engineering (PE) License is required.
  • Certification as a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) is required or to be obtained within 1 year.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
