About The Position

The Assistant City Attorney serves as a legal consultant, advisor, and representative for the City of Denton, handling various legal matters including municipal court cases, litigation, and providing legal advice to city officials. Requirements

• Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school or expected graduation in May 2025.
• Licensed to practice law in Texas or in the process of registering for the Texas Bar Exam in July 2025.
• Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local Government laws and regulations.
• Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Office 365 and other necessary software systems.
• Strong data analysis skills and ability to develop strategic plans.

Responsibilities

• Represent the City of Denton in municipal court cases under the supervision of the City's Prosecutor.
• Handle litigation brought by or against the City, including investigation of claims, preparing cases for hearings, and representing the City in court.
• Negotiate legal issues and ensure resolution within Citywide policy guidelines and applicable law.
• Advise City Council, City Manager, and internal stakeholders on legal matters, liability, and insurance issues.
• Conduct legal research on municipal issues and present findings and recommendations.
• Prepare, review, and analyze contracts, agreements, policies, ordinances, and other legal documents.
• Support a positive relationship between the City of Denton and the public.
