About The Position
The Virginia Beach City Attorney's Office is dedicated to providing effective and efficient legal services while promoting accountability, trust, and openness in government. The office focuses on achieving outcomes that are fair, equitable, and balanced, all while protecting the best interests of the City. We are currently seeking an Assistant City Attorney who possesses a strong interest in and knowledge of Land Use, Zoning, and Environmental Law. This position is crucial for ensuring that the City operates within the legal framework and adheres to environmental regulations. The Assistant City Attorney will serve as general counsel to various boards and commissions, preparing written legal opinions based on thorough legal research. This role also involves representing the City in court for civil and criminal enforcement actions, as well as administrative proceedings. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing contracts and stormwater agreements, drafting ordinances and resolutions, and providing legal advice on a range of issues. Given the fast-paced nature of the office, excellent writing skills, sharp analytical abilities, and strong research capabilities are essential. Experience in environmental regulatory compliance, enforcement, and transactional matters is preferred, as the role requires a solid understanding of these areas. The position is at-will and serves at the pleasure of the City Attorney, with no residency requirement in Virginia Beach.
