Job Description Assistant City Attorney Dallas City Attorney’s Office – General Litigation Section The Dallas City Attorney’s Office is seeking an energetic, self-motivated civil litigator with a minimum of five years of experience to fill a full-time position in the General Litigation Section of the City Attorney’s Office. The General Litigation Section represents the City of Dallas and its officials in a wide range of claims and lawsuits on both the plaintiff and defense side in state and federal courts. Practice will be interesting and diverse, including complex contract disputes, challenges to ordinances and city policies, constitutional litigation, real estate and land use disputes, eminent domain matters, environmental issues, construction claims, animal issues, and more. The successful candidate will handle all aspects of litigation including research and writing, conducting discovery, appearing in court and before city boards and commissions, mediating cases, and trying cases. The successful candidate will also be assigned to handle responses to discovery requests in civil and criminal cases to which the city is not a party. The successful candidate will also be responsible for briefing and arguing, if necessary, any general litigation appeals in collaboration with the Appellate Section. Other duties may be assigned. Applicants must be licensed to practice law in Texas and be in good standing with the State Bar of Texas. Applicants must have experience in federal and Texas state court civil litigation and possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Prior litigation experience in one or more of the above-mentioned areas is required. Salary is commensurate with experience. The city's comprehensive benefits package comes with the position.
