About The Position

The Assistant City Attorney IV position within the City of Phoenix Law Department focuses on providing legal consultation and support to the Phoenix Police Department. This role involves reviewing internal investigations for compliance, drafting and negotiating contracts, and assisting in training for police personnel. The attorney will engage in various legal matters, including municipal law and transactional work, while working independently and reporting to an Assistant Chief Counsel.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and admission to the State Bar of Arizona.
  • Four years of experience as a practicing civil or criminal attorney.
  • One year of government law practice with knowledge of municipal law.
  • Experience in the review, negotiation, and drafting of contracts.
  • Significant client contact experience and primary responsibility for civil litigation.

Nice To Haves

  • Five years of diverse legal experience including court administration and litigation.
  • Extensive experience advising law enforcement and handling criminal matters.
  • Teaching experience at Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs.
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating complicated contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consultation and review of internal investigations for legal and policy compliance.
  • Draft and negotiate intergovernmental agreements and contracts.
  • Assist in training for the Phoenix Police Department.
  • Engage in government law practice and handle legal matters for the assigned client department.
  • Review, negotiate, and draft contracts related to public safety and human resources.
  • Consult with client decision makers regarding relevant legal issues.
  • Staff public meetings and represent the City during administrative hearings or court proceedings.
