About The Position
The City of Kenosha is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Assistant City Attorney I/II. This role may be filled at either level based on the candidate's experience. The Assistant City Attorney will be responsible for a variety of legal tasks that support the operations of the City. This includes enforcing City ordinances, drafting legal documents, representing the City in court, and providing legal advice to elected officials and city departments. The position requires a strong understanding of municipal law and the ability to navigate complex legal issues that affect city governance and operations. The Assistant City Attorney will engage in drafting ordinances and resolutions, providing legal opinions on municipal legislation, and analyzing the implications of proposed laws. They will also be involved in negotiating contracts and agreements that impact the City, ensuring that all legal documents are compliant with state and federal laws. The role demands a proactive approach to legal challenges, including defending the City against liability claims and prosecuting municipal violations. In addition to these responsibilities, the Assistant City Attorney will attend various city meetings, including those of the Common Council and other committees, to provide legal guidance and support. The position requires strong communication skills, both written and oral, as the attorney will need to present cases in court and provide clear legal advice to city officials. The work environment is collaborative, requiring the attorney to build effective relationships with various city departments and stakeholders.
