The position involves following general direction and performing various duties as assigned by the Child Care Teacher or Director. The role includes implementing curriculum within established guidelines and nurturing children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in children and fostering relationships among children and families. Responsibilities also include providing children with opportunities to build self-help and independence skills, ensuring ongoing systematic observation of individual children, and consistently completing developmental assessments. The position requires the ability to support children in need and engage parents and families by connecting them to the YMCA. Additionally, sound judgment and discretionary skills must be utilized in accordance with Gateway Region YMCA policies, while maintaining positive relationships with diverse individuals, including staff, parents, volunteers, and program site administration. It is essential to ensure that YMCA policies and guidelines are followed at all times, maintain an environment that ensures children's safety and well-being, plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities, and uphold a zero tolerance for abuse, actively participating in the protection of youth and teens. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
