About The Position

The Assistant Chief Nursing Officer provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for nursing services, including Acute Care and the Emergency Department. Reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Officer, this role partners closely with leadership, providers, and frontline staff to ensure high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and alignment with organizational goals. This position plays a critical role in fostering a culture of excellence, supporting workforce development, enhancing patient experience, and driving continuous improvement across nursing services.

Requirements

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Master of Science in Nursing required
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years of nursing experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
  • Licensure/Certification: Current RN license in Washington State and current BLS certification
  • Knowledge and Skills: Strong understanding of nursing practices, leadership principles, and regulatory requirements
  • Knowledge of federal and state healthcare regulations
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lead with clarity, transparency, and purpose

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Chief Nursing Officer to develop and implement strategic plans for nursing services
  • Provide leadership and oversight of nursing staff, including recruitment, development, and performance management
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations and nursing standards
  • Lead initiatives to improve patient care quality, safety, and outcomes
  • Serve as a liaison between nursing staff and executive leadership
  • Promote a professional practice environment that supports recruitment and retention
  • Lead the Hospital Staffing Committee and Safe Patient Handling Committee
  • Strengthen engagement, accountability, and shared decision-making among nursing staff
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with hospitalists and interdisciplinary teams
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and support financial stewardship efforts
  • Address and resolve staff and patient concerns in a timely and effective manner
  • Support leadership development and gain experience to advance to a Chief Nursing Officer role
