About The Position

The Assistant Engineer provides assistance with various maintenance projects including operating, maintaining, and inspecting facility equipment in accordance with written, posted and industry standards. Performs regular inspections and reports findings with recommendations to management. Requirements

  • Experience in building maintenance or engineering operations (commercial or residential).
  • EPA Certification for refrigerant handling required.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, coaching, and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with computers and building automation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and oversee maintenance and repairs for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general building systems.
  • Complete and document work orders, preventive maintenance, inspections, and equipment logs.
  • Maintain inventory and ensure proper use of tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Assist with vendor coordination and long‑term equipment planning.
  • Train and support maintenance staff; promote teamwork and a professional environment.
  • Communicate effectively with property management, tenants, and internal teams.
  • Support safety programs and ensure compliance with building codes and internal procedures.
  • Perform custodial, grounds, or seasonal tasks as needed (e.g., snow removal, common area upkeep).
  • Participate in the on‑call rotation for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Conduct move‑in/move‑out inspections and support unit turnover processes.
