Our Sunnyvale property is a landmark project: the first new-build M Social in the U.S. and the first hotel in California designed with 5G wireless technology from the ground up. Launching in late 2026, it will feature 263 rooms, a centrally located courtyard, and our signature Beast & Butterflies restaurant and social hub. M Social is powered by Millennium Hotels & Resorts (MHR), a global hospitality leader with over 145 properties in key gateway cities like London, Paris, New York, and Singapore. This role is an exciting opportunity to support the engineering leadership in launching a high-performing, efficient, and safety-focused operation. As Assistant Chief Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the property is maintained to the highest standards while contributing to a collaborative, energized, and solutions-driven team environment. Your Impact The Assistant Chief Engineer will serve as a critical operational partner, supporting the Chief Engineer in maintaining the hotel’s physical assets, systems, and infrastructure. This role helps ensure a safe, efficient, and well-maintained environment that enhances both the guest and employee experience. You will contribute to building a strong engineering culture focused on preventive maintenance, operational excellence, and responsiveness. Your leadership and technical expertise will help bring the M Social experience to life by ensuring the property operates seamlessly from day one and beyond.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities maintenance, building operations, or a related field
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general building systems
  • Hands-on technical expertise with troubleshooting and repair capabilities
  • Must have experience working in a hotel environment, demonstrating a thorough understanding of hospitality operations, guest services, and the unique challenges faced in this industry.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Effective communication and team leadership abilities
  • Proficiency in systems such as preventive maintenance software, Word, and Excel
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, and on-call situations
  • Passion for innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily engineering operations, including maintenance, repair, and safety programs
  • Assist in executing preventive maintenance and energy conservation initiatives
  • Partner with leadership to ensure operational efficiency and asset protection
  • Help foster a collaborative, accountable, and service-oriented team culture
  • Assist in managing the physical plant including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, and life safety systems
  • Monitor and ensure timely completion and quality of work orders
  • Inspect facilities and equipment to proactively identify maintenance needs
  • Coordinate repairs, renovations, and contractor/vendor services as needed
  • Assign, track, and follow up on work performed by engineering team members and contractors
  • Support training initiatives, including safety procedures and technical skills development
  • Provide guidance and coaching to team members to ensure high performance and engagement
  • Maintain open communication to align team efforts with operational goals
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations and company policies
  • Support emergency response readiness, including operation of generators and fire/life safety systems
  • Maintain accurate logs, records, and documentation for compliance and operational tracking
  • Promote a strong culture of safety and accountability across the engineering team
  • Support initiatives that enhance guest comfort and satisfaction through efficient facility operations
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and operational needs
  • Contribute to a positive, service-focused environment for both guests and team members
  • Lead by example in delivering responsive and solution-oriented service
