About The Position

We're expanding into new product categories and looking for an Assistant Category Manager eager to learn retail fundamentals in a data-driven environment. In this entry-level role, you'll support Category Managers on merchandising projects: sourcing and onboarding vendors, building assortments, cleaning and maintaining product data, monitoring pricing and availability, and helping improve total cost of ownership (TCO) for our customers. You'll work closely with your manager, check in frequently, and take on projects with greater autonomy as you ramp-progressing toward managing your own portfolio of vendors and product categories over time. Requirements

  • Recent college graduate (or equivalent experience); internships or campus leadership in retail, analytics, e-commerce, or operations are a plus.
  • Analytical chops: Comfortable in Excel/Sheets (VLOOKUP/INDEX-MATCH, pivot tables); SQL familiarity is a plus but not required.
  • AI-first approach to problem solving: Leveraging technology to drive improvements in both the quality and quantity of your impact
  • Operational discipline: Strong organization, attention to detail, and follow-through-especially with repetitive data tasks.
  • Communication & collaboration: Clear written notes, crisp updates, and a helpful, proactive attitude with teammates and vendors.
  • Owner's mindset: Curiosity to learn, resilience when data is messy, and the drive continuously improve

Responsibilities

  • Support assortment growth: Help research whitespace, comparison shop, and assist in launching 1,000+ new SKUs in your first year (ownership grows with experience).
  • Price & availability hygiene: Support cost/retail updates, flag pricing issues, and track inventory availability across suppliers; escalate anomalies quickly.
  • Vendor meeting support: Partner with Category Managers to plan and communicate agendas, prepare supporting materials, compile sales reports and other marketplace/vendor data as assigned, record action items, and follow up to keep tasks moving.
  • Represent Perpay externally: Attend trade shows to pitch our marketplace and credit-building value prop to potential vendor partners
  • Reporting & analysis: Pull weekly sales, margin, and inventory availability reports; build lightweight dashboards and summaries that convert data into next steps for the team.
  • Cross-functional coordination: Work with Product, Analytics, Operations, and Marketing to improve customer experience.
  • Process improvements: Leverage AI and build standard operating procedures that make our team faster and more accurate.
