About The Position

McKenzie Craft is a boutique fabrication studio specializing in custom millwork and metalwork for high-end residential and commercial spaces. From cabinetry and furniture to flooring and ceilings, our team builds complex, design-driven projects with care and precision. We are looking for a motivated Assistant Carpenter to join our shop team. This role is ideal for someone with foundational carpentry experience who is eager to grow their skills in custom fabrication and installation while working alongside experienced craftsmen in a fast-paced, high-quality environment.

Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to squat, lift, stretch, and bend to reach all areas of the workspace
  • Must be able to work in overhead and below-machinery positions
  • Must wear steel-toed boots
  • Required PPE: protective eyewear, hearing protection, and hard hat
  • Adherence to McKenzie Craft safety guidelines at all times
  • May be required to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and pass a drug test
  • Basic to intermediate understanding of woodworking techniques and tools
  • Ability to read and follow technical drawings and measurements with supervision
  • Willingness to learn shop fabrication and installation best practices
  • Solid math and measuring skills with attention to accuracy
  • Strong work ethic and reliability
  • Ability to take direction, ask questions, and follow established processes
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in carpentry, construction, millwork, or finish carpentry preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the fabrication and assembly of custom architectural millwork including cabinets, furniture, panels, trim, flooring, and ceiling features.
  • Read and follow work orders, prints, sketches, and specifications with guidance from senior carpenters or supervisors.
  • Support installation work on residential and commercial job sites by preparing materials, tools, and work areas.
  • Perform a variety of carpentry tasks such as cutting, sanding, lamination support, stain-grade prep, cabinetry support, framing assistance (wood and steel), and demolition as needed.
  • Safely operate hand tools and shop equipment appropriate to skill level and training.
  • Set up and break down work areas, including scaffolding and temporary protections, as directed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace in the shop and on job sites.
  • Clean, store, and maintain tools and equipment properly.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support production flow and project completion.
