About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Commerce is the state's lead agency for economic, community and workforce development. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits, including health insurance, as well as retirement. This position will serve as Assistant Career Center Manager. The position will provide direct supervision of Center staff engaged in the provision of employment services, job training, limited unemployment insurance services, and labor market information services to customers seeking work and employers seeking work in Wilkes, Ashe and Alleghany Counties. It will interact closely with workforce partners in an Integrated Services Delivery (ISD) environment to ensure the appropriate delivery of services to all customers. The position requires a high level of organizational skills and will be responsible for budgeting staff, training new employees, and reviewing the work of staff. May travel as requested based on business needs and participate in an employer outreach program. The work is performed under the supervision of the Wilkes County DWS Manager. Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of the Division of Workforce Solutions and its functions.
  • Ability to apply the provisions of federal, state and agency law, rules, regulations, and procedures to specific program areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, train and function as a resource for lower-level staff.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate information.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in written form effectively with a variety of individuals both internal and external to the organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in public or private employment service-related work including experience in a lead, coaching, or mentoring capacity or,
  • Associate degree and four years of experience in public or private employment service-related work including experience in a lead, coaching, or mentoring capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Responsibilities
