About the position

POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Cafe Kitchen Manager is responsible for the daily operations of the cafe kitchen. The Assistant Manager will promote inclusion of persons with disabilities and work in conjunction with fellow employees.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook customer orders according to recipes and instructions.
  • Assist with catering and delivery orders.
  • Complete preparations of needed food items by following cafe recipes and par sheets.
  • Receive and process payments (cash and credit cards).
  • Stock supplies, wash dishes, and clean equipment as needed.
  • Follow all rules and regulations pertaining to the operation of the café, including completion of any Illinois Department of Health training and certifications required.
  • Assist the Cafe manager with day-to-day operations to include but not limited to processing invoices, ordering from approved vendors, training, overseeing kitchen processes, scheduling employees, and other administrative and operational tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have good communication and listening skills to meet the customer and employee needs.
  • Must be able to focus on the customer’s preferences and interests; providing an engaging and interesting customer experience.
  • Must be able to organize and optimize small areas for efficiency and quality.
  • Must be able to follow recipes.
  • Must be able to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Must be 18 years of age, prior kitchen experience preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate well with the customers and employees.
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Must be able to count and complete transactions with monies.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Must maintain all credentials required by the Illinois Department of Health.
  • Ability or willingness to learn tablet/computer operations for entering and tracking Café transactions.
