About The Position

Total Wine & More is seeking an Assistant Buyer to join our Beer team in Bethesda, MD. In this role, you will support the buying team with item setup, compliance, supplier communications, and reporting to ensure accurate and timely execution of category initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in retail buying and learn the fundamentals of category management in the beer industry. You will report to the Sr. Manager, Beer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Merchandising, or related field.
  • 0-1 year of experience in merchandising, retail operations, or a related field (internships count).
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (PivotTables, formulas) and Outlook; experience with SharePoint or PowerBI is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
  • Interest in the beer industry and desire to build a career in merchandising.

Responsibilities

  • Support the beer buying team by setting up new items, maintaining item data, and ensuring accuracy in systems and documentation.
  • Assist with supplier communications, preparing meeting materials, and following up on action items to keep projects on track.
  • Manage the digital asset process for assigned items to ensure images and product details are accurate for online and marketing use.
  • Prepare and distribute weekly sales and inventory reports, highlighting key insights for the buying team.
  • Help coordinate promotional activities, including item setup, pricing checks, and store communication.
  • Maintain organized electronic files, tracking sheets, and project lists to support the team’s day-to-day work.
  • Resolve store-level questions or issues by coordinating with internal partners and suppliers.
  • Provide general administrative and analytical support on ad hoc projects as assigned and perform other duties as needed to support the Beer team.
