The Assistant Buyer role is a critical position within this dynamic environment, requiring a motivated individual who will participate in vendor selections and partnerships. This role involves monitoring inventory productivity and analyzing vendor profitability, as well as providing data and analysis for price changes and assisting in entering those changes online. The Assistant Buyer will be responsible for various core merchandising tasks, including pre-market analysis, attending market appointments, writing preliminary bulk orders, and managing checkbook activities. This position requires the individual to assist in the timely placement and maintenance of purchase orders, execute pricing strategies based on promotional cadences, and manage receipts while communicating with vendors to ensure that sales plans and inventory targets are met. The role also involves building and maintaining ship sheets for monthly forecasts, pulling and reviewing reports, and identifying opportunities based on weekly business and inventory trends. In addition to these responsibilities, the Assistant Buyer will support in-season management for the brand portfolio, including dropship, re-orders, and markdowns, while negotiating RTVs and swaps. The individual will provide analysis to support merchandise strategies and assist in product selection based on digital and store KPIs. The role also includes monitoring industry trends and evaluating competition, setting up new items in the database, and executing the Best/Worst Seller Review. Financial planning and markdowns are also part of the role, where the Assistant Buyer will recommend business opportunities and support the markdown projection process. The Assistant Buyer will develop and maintain vendor relationships, partner with various teams to ensure accurate product listings, and work cross-functionally with marketing and store planning teams. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. The ideal candidate will have 1-2 years of experience as an Assistant Buyer, preferably in a major department store, and possess a strong knowledge of retail math concepts.
