Assistant Branch Manager ( Queens)

Carver Federal Savings BankQueens, NY
3d$55,000 - $65,000

About The Position

The Assistant Branch Manager is the Branch Manager’s operational and leadership partner, the person who keeps the branch running at full strength, steps into the lead when called upon, and develops the team’s day-to-day discipline and performance. This is not a support role. The Assistant Branch Manager shares direct accountability for branch results alongside the Branch Manager, with ownership over daily operations, team execution, client service quality, and the coaching of frontline associates. When the Branch Manager is focused on market development and institutional relationships, the Assistant Branch Manager holds the branch together and keeps the standard high. We are looking for a leader who is ready for the full weight of branch management, someone who has proven themselves in a frontline retail or banking role and is now prepared to step into shared ownership of a business, a team, and a community relationship. This role is a full leadership position, not a management-in-training program. It is for someone who is ready to lead now, and who wants to grow into a Branch Manager role at an institution where that growth carries real meaning.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of progressive retail or financial services experience with a demonstrated record of performance in a client-facing role and at least some experience in team supervision, operations oversight, or acting management capacity
  • Proven ability to hold a service and sales standard across a team, not just to meet individual goals, but to elevate the performance of the people around them
  • Sound working knowledge of branch operations and retail banking regulatory requirements including BSA/AML, CRA, OFAC, and Regulation E
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to give direct, constructive feedback to associates at all levels, including peers and partners
  • A track record of sound judgment under pressure, someone who makes decisions, resolves problems, and does not wait for direction when clarity is needed
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent professional retail or banking experience in lieu of degree will be considered on its merits
  • NMLS registration required within 30 days of hire; availability for branch hours including weekends and evenings as business requires

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a formal assistant manager, acting manager, or operations lead capacity within a retail or banking environment
  • Experience with CDFI programs, community development lending, or mission-driven financial services
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, French, or other languages that reflect the communities Carver serves is a meaningful advantage

Responsibilities

  • Hold the service standard at the frontline level, ensuring that every client interaction, regardless of account size or transaction type, reflects the professionalism and care that define the Carver brand
  • Work alongside frontline associates in real-time, modeling the advisory approach Carver expects, listening to client needs, offering relevant solutions, and treating every transaction as the beginning of a deeper relationship
  • Track client satisfaction indicators at the branch level and work with the Branch Manager to address patterns that fall short of Carver’s service expectations
  • Resolve client concerns that require management involvement with urgency, sound judgment, and a genuine commitment to retaining the client’s trust
  • Create “Moments That Matter” for every client; intentional, memorable interactions that go beyond the transaction and leave clients feeling seen, valued, and genuinely served by Carver
  • Carry personal production responsibility alongside management duties, this role is expected to open accounts, deepen client relationships, and contribute directly to deposit growth and referral activity
  • Support the Branch Manager’s outbound business development strategy by maintaining active client relationships, following up on referrals, and identifying opportunities within the existing client base
  • Work across Carver’s lending, deposits, and small business teams to ensure clients with broader financial needs are connected to the right people and the right products
  • Participate in branch business development planning, contributing market observations, client feedback, and frontline intelligence that inform how the branch grows its book of business
  • Co-lead the branch alongside the Branch Manager, with full ownership of daily branch performance in areas including client experience, team production, and operational compliance
  • Serve as the branch’s primary leader in the Branch Manager’s absence, not as a placeholder, but as the person who keeps performance moving and decisions getting made
  • Oversee the full scope of daily branch operations with the discipline of a business owner holding every process, transaction, and control to the standard required by Carver's policies and applicable regulations
  • Monitor branch production daily, identifying trends, gaps, and opportunities and escalating or acting on them without waiting to be directed
  • Maintain an audit ready environment as an everyday standard, ensuring that compliance with CRA, BSA/AML, OFAC, Regulation E, and Carver’s internal policies is not periodic preparation but constant practice
  • Serve as the primary day-to-day coach for branch associates, providing real-time feedback, recognizing strong performance, and addressing gaps as they arise
  • Conduct structured team huddles and individual check-ins that keep associates focused on priorities, aligned on expectations, and clear on how their individual work connects to branch results
  • Support the development of a universal banking culture across the branch: every associate is expected to engage across the full product suite, recognize client opportunities, and refer with confidence
  • Assist the Branch Manager in identifying internal talent worth investing in, flagging development needs early, and contributing to performance conversations with specific, evidence-based observations
  • Onboard new associates with care and rigor, setting clear expectations from the start and providing the hands-on guidance that shortens the runway to full contribution

Benefits

  • We offer a competitive total rewards package that includes performance-based incentive opportunity, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, and paid time off.
