About The Position
The Assistant Boys Basketball Coach at Sheldon High School is a vital role within the athletics department, responsible for supporting the planning, development, and implementation of the interscholastic sports program for the 2024/25 season. This position involves multiple vacancies and requires a dedicated individual who can assist in various aspects of coaching and sports management. The coach will work under the direction of the head coach to ensure that all policies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures are adhered to, while also serving as a resource for physical education and physical activity instruction. In this role, the assistant coach will be tasked with organizing and coordinating sports activities and training workouts, providing instruction and training to athletes to help them achieve proficiency in basketball. The coach will observe participants during practices to identify and correct errors in their techniques, ensuring that health and safety rules are enforced. Additionally, the assistant coach will develop and implement physical conditioning programs aimed at maximizing athlete performance and will monitor injuries to determine appropriate return-to-play timelines. The position also involves selecting uniforms and equipment, assessing team skills and opponent capabilities to devise game strategies, and coordinating travel for out-of-area games. The assistant coach will confer with site administrators regarding the sports program and may participate in scouting activities. The role may also include demonstrating teaching methods and techniques to other coaches and physical education personnel, as well as recommending updates to the sports program to incorporate innovative trends.
