About The Position

YAI has an opening for an Assistant Behavior Intervention Specialist. YAI promotes a person-centered approach by creating supports that cater to the specific needs of each person. Join our dynamic team teaching daily and independent living skills, providing individual and group counseling, and promoting community integration. The ideal candidate will have enthusiasm for working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and a willingness to help with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as assisting with showering, toileting, grooming, laundry and housekeeping as necessary. ABIS works directly with people in their home, work, and daily life in varying capacities. An ABIS must have previously worked as a DSP, completed all the required trainings and demonstrated all the knowledge, skills and accountabilities of a Direct Service Professional Level three. The Asst. BIS position blends together the DSP role and the clinical leadership role. Clinical leadership under the supervision of the BIS includes educating team members on habilitative and Behavior Support Plans, assisting with clinical assessments, ensuring data collection and providing direct feedback and education to all team members.

Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree in Psychology or Human Services strongly preferred or enrolled in a 4-year degree in Psychology or Human Services field.
  • Experience working within the field of ID/DD preferred.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills.
  • Willingness to take initiative and be highly flexible to varied work schedule.
  • Experience in computer skills and ability to teach others.
  • College level writing ability.
  • Demonstrated assertiveness/leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated clinical skills.

Responsibilities

  • To provide direct care services as needed, including direct counseling, implementation of treatment plans, training in ADL skills, and assistance with personal care.
  • To train staff using the EMOE training system to ensure proper implementation of clinical interventions and provide feedback.
  • Role model use of person-centered philosophy and tools.
  • To develop written, individualized habilitative plans according to individual needs.
  • To conduct behavioral and habilitative assessments under the supervision of the BIS.
  • To design effective data collection systems and monitor data collection.
  • To oversee the completion of all required paperwork, including monthlies and Person Centered materials.
  • To provide appropriate supervision to ensure the health and safety of individuals.
  • Train new staff on Level 1 competencies.
  • Resource to staff by providing clinical support in absence of the BIS/Supervisor.
  • Lead trainer of weekend staff on clinical interventions.
