About The Position

The Assistant Bakery Manager plays a key leadership role in supporting daily bakery operations, team supervision, and product quality. This position partners closely with the Bakery & Kitchen Manager to ensure production standards and food safety are consistently executed. This role is ideal for an experienced baker with supervisory experience who is ready to grow into higher levels of leadership while remaining hands-on in production. The Assistant Bakery Manager helps set the tone for professionalism, teamwork, and excellence within the bakery.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of baking or commercial kitchen experience required
  • Working knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and safe food handling practices
  • Ability to follow recipes, production schedules, and written procedures with consistency
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to lead by example
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • California Food Handler Certification (must obtain upon hire)
  • Completion of pre-employment assessments (sent via email)
  • Participation in a video interview as part of the hiring process
  • Minimum availability of 40 hours per week
  • Availability on Sundays and holidays as required

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory or lead experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist in overseeing daily baking and production schedules to ensure product availability, freshness, and quality
  • Perform hands-on baking, preparation, and finishing of products according to established recipes and standards
  • Ensure all bakery equipment is operated safely and maintained according to preventative maintenance schedules
  • Support inventory management, including ingredient ordering, receiving, rotation (FIFO), and waste reduction
  • Uphold all food safety, sanitation, and health department standards at all times
  • Monitor product consistency, presentation, and taste to ensure bakery standards are met
  • Address quality issues promptly and communicate concerns to the Bakery & Kitchen Manager
  • Model and enforce cleanliness, organization, and safety throughout the bakery
  • Assist in supervising bakery team members during shifts, providing direction and support
  • Coach team members on proper baking techniques, efficiency, and quality expectations
  • Reinforce attendance, punctuality, and professional workplace behavior
  • Participate in onboarding and training of new bakery team members
  • Support the Bakery Manager with shift coverage, production planning, and schedule adjustments
  • Step in to lead shifts or production days as needed in the Bakery Manager’s absence
  • Communicate staffing needs, call-outs, and workflow adjustments proactively

  • Contribute to a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment
  • Participate in coaching conversations and documentation as directed by leadership
  • Support continuous improvement efforts across bakery operations
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a fast-faced environment
  • Lift, push, or pull up to 50lbs regularly
  • Ability to bend, reach, squat, kneel, and perform repetitive motions
  • Comfortable working weekends, holidays, and overnight up until 2-4am.
