About The Position

Purpose within the Organization: The purpose of this position is to assist with the audio engineering needs for stage productions, supporting the Audio Engineer and Technical Director in the setup, operation, and troubleshooting of audio equipment and systems. Responsibilities Related to Purpose: The student worker will assist the Audio Engineer and Technical Director with various tasks related to the execution of sound designs for various theatrical stage productions and events, which may include, but are not limited to: Assisting with the setup and operation of sound equipment during rehearsals and performances, including microphones, mixing consoles, speakers, amplifiers, and wireless systems Troubleshooting and resolving audio issues during rehearsals and live performances Assisting with sound checks and microphone placement for performers Helping to organize and maintain audio equipment, including cables, microphones, and other tools Assisting in sound design execution, including programming and managing sound cues Maintaining safety protocols when handling equipment and cables Collaborating with other crew members, including the lighting and stage crews, to ensure smooth technical operations. Equipment used and responsibility: Audio Equipment: Mixing consoles, microphones, speakers, amplifiers, wireless systems audio processors, Computer: Various software including: Wireless Workbench, Theatre mix, Qlab General Tools: Hand tools for cable management, audio signal routing, and equipment setup Other Equipment: Ladders (if necessary for equipment setup)

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge or interest in audio engineering and sound design
  • Familiarity with audio equipment and signal flow (microphones, speakers, mixing consoles)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues quickly
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and follow directions from senior audio and technical staff
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask under pressure
  • Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a Bachelor’s program or Master’s program.
  • Retain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
  • Maintain good financial standing with the University.
  • You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with audio equipment (either in theatre or other settings) is a plus
  • Familiarity with digital audio workstations (e.g., Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton)
  • Experience with live sound reinforcement
  • Basic knowledge of sound mixing, equalization, and acoustics
  • Familiarity with wireless microphone systems and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of cable management and audio patching systems
  • “Dante” knowledge and Certification
