About The Position

The Vermont Office of the Attorney General, Department for Children and Families, Family Services Legal Division, has an immediate opening for an energetic and talented full-time Assistant Attorney General who will be responsible for representing the Department for Children and Families before the Human Services Board.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be a member in good standing of the Vermont bar, or eligible to waive in.
  • Candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • be capable of working as part of a team.
  • Candidates must be willing to travel and work independently, but within the structure of a government legal team.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to applicants with three years of relevant experience, especially in Vermont, but newly admitted attorneys are welcome to apply.
  • Self-reliance, IT skills and knowledge of state and federal mental health law, regulations and policies are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • litigating Family Division cases before the Vermont Superior Courts
  • representing the Department in administrative appeals before the Human Services Board
  • contract review
  • related administrative legal work
  • training family service workers in all aspects of the litigation process
