About The Position

The Vermont Office of the Attorney General, Department for Children and Families, Family Services Legal Division, has an immediate opening for an energetic and talented full-time Assistant Attorney General who will be responsible for representing the Department for Children and Families before the Human Services Board.

Requirements

Candidates must be a member in good standing of the Vermont bar, or eligible to waive in.
Candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills
be capable of working as part of a team.
Candidates must be willing to travel and work independently, but within the structure of a government legal team.

Nice To Haves

Preference will be given to applicants with three years of relevant experience, especially in Vermont, but newly admitted attorneys are welcome to apply.
Self-reliance, IT skills and knowledge of state and federal mental health law, regulations and policies are a plus.

Responsibilities

litigating Family Division cases before the Vermont Superior Courts
representing the Department in administrative appeals before the Human Services Board
contract review
related administrative legal work
training family service workers in all aspects of the litigation process
