About The Position

The Assistant Attorney General for Cross-Unit Litigation will work within the Colorado Department of Law's Civil Litigation Section, handling complex and high-profile civil cases across various subject areas. This role involves leading litigation teams, managing substantial caseloads, and providing litigation advice on significant legal matters impacting the State of Colorado. Requirements

  • Must be admitted to the Colorado bar or eligible to waive into the Colorado Bar and in good standing.
  • Demonstrated competency in all facets of litigation, including trials and appeals.
  • Experience with complex civil litigation cases, particularly in tort, employment, civil rights, and class action litigation.
  • Outstanding writing and analytical skills.
  • Strong leadership, mentorship, and coaching abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse personalities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead large civil litigation cases and litigation teams.
  • Manage a substantial caseload, including class actions and constitutional challenges.
  • Perform all aspects of litigation, including motions practice, discovery, and trial preparation.
  • Defend against class certification and try cases in state and federal courts.
  • Attend mediation and arbitration sessions.
  • Brief and argue appeals before various courts, including the Colorado Court of Appeals and the U.S. Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.
  • Mentor less experienced attorneys and help develop their litigation skills.
