About The Position

Performs under limited supervision professional legal work related to the Sexually Violent Predator Act. Will perform duties as dictated by each case. Under general supervision, your job responsibilities will include: Reviews records and reports of individuals referred to the Sexually Violent Predator section by the Prosecution Review Committee. Drafts and files appropriate pleadings in cases referred by the Prosecution Review Committee. Represents the State in each pre-commitment stage of the sexually violent predator proceedings, including pre-commitment probable cause hearings, motion hearings, commitment trials, and appeals. Represents the State in each annual review of a person's commitment to the Sexually Violent Predator Treatment Program, including annual review probable cause hearings, motion hearings, annual review trials, and appeals. Complete other related duties as assigned. This position also includes an excellent benefits package: Public Service Loan Forgiveness eligibility. Paid parental leave. Requirements

  • J.D. Degree with at least ten years of practicing experience, at least two of those years appearing in court proceedings in family, circuit, and/or appellate courts in the State of South Carolina or Federal courts.
  • Must be a member and in good standing with the South Carolina Bar.
  • Must satisfy Rule 403 requirements.
  • Some overnight travel is required.
  • Position may require employee to work evenings and weekends.
  • Must have an above-average understanding of computers, software, and technology (beyond MS Office and related software).
  • Position required to travel and transport files.
  • Position requires up-to-date certification(s).

Nice To Haves

  • Requires written skills and oral advocacy, must be flexible to travel.
  • Must be organized and be able to work independently in meeting deadlines.
  • Operates dictation equipment; able to operate computer and/or Westlaw.
  • Must be able to transport files to court.
  • Uses the law library.
