This specialized unit tirelessly investigates and prosecutes those who exploit children online, using cutting-edge technology, collaborative partnerships, and an unwavering commitment to justice. Under limited supervision, performs all legal work relating to crimes against children facilitated through the use of technology, including the possession and distribution of child pornography and criminal solicitation of a minor.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate Degree.
  • Must be a member and in good standing with the South Carolina Bar.
  • Must satisfy Rule 403 requirements.
  • Employee is expected to promptly inform supervisor of any issues, problems, or suggestions relating to job duties.

Nice To Haves

  • Must have above-average understanding of computers, software and technology (beyond MS-Office and related software).
  • Knowledge of South Carolina laws, general case, statutory and common law; knowledge of judicial and quasi-judicial procedures and rules of guidance.
  • Must have the ability to interpret and apply laws in court decisions and the ability to analyze facts, evidence and legal instruments.
  • Must be able to express conclusions and arguments clearly and logically.
  • Some travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Advise law enforcement agents regarding possible criminal violations.
  • Review law enforcement reports and case information.
  • Advise and assist law enforcement on Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) investigations.
  • Prepare cases for county grand jury consideration and final disposition.
  • Prepare appropriate indictments in time to be adequately reviewed and approved by the Attorney General.
  • Prepare cases for trial.
  • Seek appropriate resolution of all cases in a timely manner.
  • Make court appearances and trial presentations on behalf of the State of South Carolina and the SC Attorney General's Office.
  • Prepare orders and other necessary documentation to obtain subscriber information from the Internet and electronic service providers.
  • Assist in training and making presentations to law enforcement agencies, local community groups, schools, or related interest groups on ICAC issues.
  • Respond to citizen inquiries.
  • Perform other related duties as requested by the Attorney General, Chief Deputy Attorney General, and supervising attorney.
