About The Position

Aquinas College, a member of the NAIA and the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC), is seeking an athletic trainer. This position will provide onsite care and management of student athletes’ injuries and illnesses including: prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation.

Requirements

  • Must have a Master’s Degree, be BOC certified, and possess state athletic training licensure.
  • Must have knowledge of a large range of medical problems.
  • Must demonstrate effective assessment and evaluation skills.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with other healthcare professionals.
  • Must be able to think critically and make independent decisions regarding assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
  • Must be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situations when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff and families.
  • Must have the ability to organize, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision.
  • Must be able to position patients for examination. May assist patients as needed, helping them on and off the exam table.
  • Must be able to lift and carry objects on a frequent basis.
  • Must be able and willing to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the risk of injury, performs ergonomic evaluations and coaching, advises on self-care techniques and promotes overall wellness.
  • Using electronic systems, documents all patient encounters.
  • Coordinates and implements injury prevention programs and customized preventative strategies and programs to each patient.
  • Minimizes risk of injury through awareness, education and prevention strategies.
  • Provides accommodation recommendations, related to sport, for student-athletes with restrictions and limitations.
  • Communications with physicians and coach staff regarding the injury status of student-athletes.
  • Carries out medical care for assigned student-athletes per the sports medicine standard operating procedures.
  • Performs administrative duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.
