About The Position

Under specific/routine supervision, the Assistant Athletic Trainer assists the Head Athletic Trainer with overall care of men's and women's intercollegiate athletic program.

Requirements

  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to perform athletic training skills for men's and women's intercollegiate athletic program.
  • Knowledge of techniques for caring for injuries, rehabilitation, and prevention.
  • Ability to receive telephone calls, respond to inquiries and communicate with others by telephone.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Ability to drive a personal or university vehicle for the purpose of university business.
  • Bachelor degree in athletic training or related field required.
  • NATA certification required.
  • NYS Certification or ability to gain certification within the first year of employment.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • License must meet insurance company rules and regulations for driving underwriting criteria.
  • OSHA Class I

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • American Red Cross CPR/FA instructor preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide coverage at assigned games and practice sessions
  • Oversee work-study students and/or student intern athletic trainer(s)
  • Provide quality care for athletic injuries including evaluation, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries and related illness
  • Document injuries
  • Process insurance claims
  • Perform other administrative duties as they arise
  • Maintain confidentiality of information (including but not limited to: student and employee personal information, student grades, etc.), both during and after their employment with the University. Any question regarding the confidentiality of material, should be referred to the supervisor. Any violation shall subject the employee to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Provides coverage at assigned games and practice sessions; oversees work-study students and/or student intern athletics trainer(s); provides quality care for athletic injuries including evaluation, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries and related illnesses.
  • Documents injuries; processes insurance claims; works with NU Drug and Alcohol Education and testing programs; performs other administrative duties.
  • Communicates with Head Coaches of assigned sports in regards to injuries and rehabilitation.
