About The Position

The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing medical coverage for assigned home varsity events and practices, ensuring that all student-athletes have received proper medical clearance at the beginning of each academic year. The role involves assessing student-athletes, administering preventative and post-injury treatments, and performing emergency first aid techniques as needed. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will work closely with the sports medicine staff to manage equipment and supplies, maintain injury documentation, and collaborate with team physicians and other health services. Regular hours will include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and some travel with various teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
  • Previous experience at the college level preferred.
  • Effective communication skills, including written, interpersonal, and public speaking.
  • BOC and CPR/AED certification required; New Jersey state licensure preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to and enforce all policies and procedures of the department and institution.
  • Provide medical coverage for assigned home varsity events and practices.
  • Ensure student-athletes have received proper medical clearance at the beginning of each academic year.
  • Assess student-athletes and administer preventative and post-injury treatments.
  • Perform emergency first aid techniques as needed.
  • Manage inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Oversee maintenance of all equipment.
  • Collaborate with team physicians for off-campus appointments and medical clearance.
  • Evaluate environmental conditions for safety during intercollegiate sports contests.
  • Supervise and instruct work study students in the sports medicine office.
  • Maintain up-to-date injury documentation and treatment records.
  • Attend and collaborate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Function as a liaison with team physicians and assist with scheduling and documentation.
