About the position

St. Edward's University of Austin, Texas invites applications for the position of Assistant Athletic Trainer. The Athletic Trainer position will work in conjunction with the Director of Sports Medicine to coordinate the care of student athletes on a day-to-day basis including prevention, evaluation, management, treatment and rehabilitation of both short- and long term injuries. This position will commit to the university's mission and athletic department's vision of excellence. For additional compensation and experience, this job includes teaching one course every fall and spring semester.

Responsibilities

  • Manage short- and long-term rehabilitation plans to evaluate and treat athletic injuries.
  • Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions as well as the ability to maintain integrity and confidentiality of data.
  • Supervise medical care needs of specific teams as assigned by Director of Sports Medicine.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining a working relationship with coaches, physicians, parents and refer students as necessary.
  • Maintain detailed medical records and insurance for student-athletes.
  • Coordinate pre-participation physical examinations with Director of Sports Medicine.
  • Schedule doctor's appointments for injured athletes.
  • Assist with inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Counsel student-athletes with regard to a variety of medical issues.
  • Remain in full compliance with NCAA, conference and college policies and procedures, and acknowledges this compliance as part of the evaluation process.
  • Obtain the required continuing education credits to fulfill the requirements for licensure renewal and national certification.
  • Frequent evenings and weekend work required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little to no supervision.
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication including stress/pressure situations when talking to athletes, medical professionals, staff, and families.

Requirements

  • Master's degree preferred; BS Minimum required.
  • Texas Department of State Health Services License required, or eligible for licensure.
  • NATA BOC certification required.
  • One-Two years of athletic training experience, with two years of experience at the collegiate level preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Preferred Current CPR Certified.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including sporting and non-sporting events that may occur early morning, weeknights, weekends, possibly holidays and team travel.
