About The Position

The Assistant Athletic Director of Communications at Ottawa University is responsible for managing the athletic department's communication strategies, including statistical information management, website maintenance, social media coordination, and media relations. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field of study or 5 years of progressive experience in athletics communication; Master's degree preferred.
  • Extensive experience working with media in broadcasting, print, and web-based communications outlets.
  • Strong skills in web design and website management, videography, and Adobe Creative Suite programs.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills, including leadership, motivation, delegation, training, and evaluation.
  • Experience managing home athletic events, including broadcast staffing and media relations.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a collegiate athletics communications office is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted professional behavior and standards of protocol in a collegiate athletic setting.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain statistical records and manage DakStats and Stat Crew.
  • Write, edit, and distribute athletic press releases, media guides, and game statistics.
  • Manage staff and student-athlete profiles and award nominations according to conference and NAIA requirements.
  • Lead the design and maintenance of the OUAZ athletic website, ensuring timely and accurate updates.
  • Oversee social media platforms and manage all aspects of program and publication production, including photo and video editing.
  • Supervise, hire, and train staff for home sports events and selected road events.
  • Recruit and train game-day support staff, including student and non-student workers.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for media relations and public relations strategies.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national media, as well as community and conference contacts.
  • Attend meetings and participate in leadership roles within NAIA and other affiliated conferences.
  • Coordinate nominations for conference and NAIA player honors.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies and maintain confidentiality of information.
