About The Position

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is a collaborative health care organization dedicated to improving patient care and the lives of Arkansans through a unique combination of education, research, and clinical programs. The Assistant/Associate Professor position is based in the Emergency Department (ED) and involves providing direct patient care, contributing to the academic and research missions of UAMS. Key aspects of this role include clinical service, teaching medical students and residents, and active participation in departmental initiatives. UAMS is the state’s only comprehensive academic health sciences center, responsible for educating and training the majority of Arkansas’s physicians and preparing various health professionals through a focus on innovation, compassion, teamwork, and patient- and family-centered care.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Emergency Medicine residency program.
  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Emergency Medicine.
  • Eligible for medical licensure in Arkansas.
  • Strong clinical decision-making, leadership, communication, and teaching skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based emergency medical care to patients in the ED.
  • Supervise and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows in a clinical setting.
  • Participate in educational activities, including lectures, case discussions, and simulation training.
  • Engage in scholarly activities, including research, publications, and presentations at national and regional conferences.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient care and improve clinical outcomes.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement projects, and administrative duties as assigned.
  • Maintain compliance with institutional policies, regulatory standards, and best practices in emergency medicine.
