About The Position

The Department of Physical Therapy in the John G. Rangos, Sr. School of Health Sciences at Duquesne University is seeking a 12-month, full-time, tenure track faculty member to teach professional phase students in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Start date: August 15, 2025. Salary is competitive. Rank commiserate with experience.

Requirements

  • Content expertise to teach coursework (didactic and laboratory) in Differential Diagnosis. Topics may cover orthopedics, neurology, endocrinology, oncology, diagnostic imaging, and pharmacological actions.
  • Proof of or eligibility for licensure to practice physical therapy in any United States jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical practice, clinical teaching and/or classroom teaching experience at the graduate level.
  • Terminal Academic Degree (PhD or EdD) or currently enrolled in a PhD or EdD program with an anticipated graduation date within 2 years.
  • An established line of research with growing potential for scholarship in related field.
  • Evidence of, or potential for excellence in teaching and service within the tenure stream according to university standards.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Technologically competent - Ability to effectively work with and learn modern relevant computer software (e.g. Canvas, Zoom etc.).
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and meet deadlines effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior university level classroom and laboratory teaching experience.
  • Clinical, teaching, and research experience in preferred areas: Orthopedics, Ergonomics, Differential Diagnosis, and PT Management.
  • Additional teaching expertise/experience in topics prosthetic & orthotic management, musculoskeletal evaluation and interventions, diagnostic imaging, and/or geriatrics preferred.
  • Active membership in the APTA.

Responsibilities

  • Primary teaching responsibilities in Differential Diagnosis skills and evaluation methods within the DPT curriculum.
  • Collaborate with faculty in curriculum development, innovative teaching strategies, and delivery of courses for entry-level physical therapy programs.
  • Advise and mentor entry-level students, which may include supervising student research and independent study work.
  • Pursue scholarship opportunities within area of expertise at a level consistent with University and Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) expectations as it relates to tenure track appointments.
  • Be actively engaged in the profession of Physical Therapy and pursue appropriate leadership opportunities.
  • Maintain Physical Therapy credentials through the pursuit of appropriate continuing education and self-advancement.
  • Contribute to university, school, departmental, and professional service.
