About The Position

We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's student body as a Assistant Professor or Associate Professor -Open Rank-School of Nursing beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year. Duties include teaching students in classrooms and/or online, simulated laboratories, and clinical settings as well as student advisement, course and program development. Additional efforts in professional achievement and professional service are expected. The unique composition of the UTRGV campus enables health professionals to address clinical care, public policy, and social issues through multidisciplinary research, scholarship, and community action. For appointment into a tenure-track or tenured position, evidence of scholarly achievement, including research, publications, and national/international professional presentations, along with experience in teaching and service, will be evaluated to determine the appropriate rank. For additional information, please visit UTRGV website. Department/College Background The School of Nursing offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Nursing. These degrees include a traditional BSN and 2nd degree BSN pre-licensure degree, an RN to BSN, along with graduate degrees in Family Nurse Practitioner, a Post-graduate certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health NP and our new Doctor in Nursing Practice (DNP) that started in Fall 2022. Our faculty teach on two campuses, in both Edinburg and in Brownsville. We have full simulation labs that offer state of the art educational opportunities for all our students. We collaborate with the other health science programs at UTRGV on interdisciplinary clinical experiences and work with hospitals throughout the entire Rio Grande Valley. UTRGV is committed to preparing its students to succeed, and seeks faculty who are prepared to help in this goal.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D. in Nursing, DNP, or related field).
  • Current RN license in Texas.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, research, and service.
  • Evidence of scholarly promise (e.g., publications, grant applications).
  • Clinical experience in nursing.
  • Initial publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Engagement in professional organizations.
  • Sustained record of excellence in teaching, research, and service.
  • Typically 6 years as Assistant Professor or equivalent experience.
  • Significant peer-reviewed publications in nursing or health sciences.
  • Evidence of external funding or grant activity.
  • National or regional reputation in the discipline
  • Terminal degree (PhD, DNP, EdD) from an accredited institution and an unencumbered license to practice nursing in the state of Texas or ability to be licensed as an Registered Nurse in Texas.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from an accredited institution.

Nice To Haves

  • Distinguished record of achievement in teaching, academic research/scholarly projects, external research funding, publication in nursing or related field, and service to the profession.
  • Master's of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution.
