About The Position

HPU Health – Oral Health Network (OHN) is a non-profit dental network that delivers comprehensive primary and specialty/surgical oral health care in affiliation with the High Point University Workman School of Dental Medicine (WSDM). This is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track faculty appointment as Assistant/Associate Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery & Dental Anesthesiology and Medical Director of OHN Surgical/Specialty Services. Professional rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications at the time of hire. The faculty member and Medical Director will provide direct patient care, educate pre-doctoral students and post-doctoral residents, and serve in a leadership capacity to support the clinical quality, safety, and growth of OHN’s surgical and specialty programs. This position reports to the Chief Dental Officer (CDO) and the WSDM Executive Leadership Team (ELT).

Requirements

  • DDS or DMD degree (or foreign equivalent) and active, unrestricted dental licensure in North Carolina.
  • Completion of a CODA-accredited Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program in the United States.
  • Minimum 5 years of practice and/or teaching experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery preferred (not required).
  • Experience in hospital-based and outpatient/private-practice environments.
  • Prior leadership, directorship, or program-building experience desirable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professional presence with strong interpersonal skills and approachability.
  • Receptive to feedback, continuous improvement, and coaching.
  • Strong alignment with HPU WSDM’s mission and core values.
  • Ability to articulate clinical, operational, and analytical concepts clearly.
  • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR), preferably EPIC.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in program oversight, quality improvement, and interprofessional collaboration.
  • Willingness to travel across OHN practice sites.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive and emergency OMFS services for patients at OHN-affiliated hospitals and clinics.
  • Deliver care with professionalism, ethical responsibility, and a patient-centered approach.
  • Document history, examination findings, diagnoses, and treatment plans in EPIC.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary care and treatment planning.
  • Provide coverage for other OHN providers as needed.
  • Serve as attending faculty for DMD students and/or post-doctoral residents.
  • Contribute to curriculum design and development at the pre-doctoral and post-doctoral levels.
  • Provide continuing education (CE) courses in areas of expertise.
  • Act as a clinician role model, thriving in an innovative, start-up educational environment.
  • Support the CDO and ELT in oversight of surgical and specialty services within OHN.
  • Ensure high standards of patient safety, quality assurance, and compliance across specialty programs.
  • Participate in the development of clinical protocols, infection control, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison with hospital partners on medical/clinical issues, credentialing, and privileging.
  • Mentor faculty, residents, and advanced practice providers (APPs) in clinical practice standards.
  • Provide input into the design and expansion of OHN surgical/specialty hubs and future GME-funded programs.
