About The Position

Central Connecticut State University invites applications to join the Department of Literacy, Elementary, and Early Childhood Education as an Assistant/Associate Professor of Literacy Education. This is a tenure track position with a starting date in August 2025. Responsibilities of this position include teaching of literacy education courses (undergraduate and graduate), scholarship work commensurate with the requirements for tenure, and service to the university, community, and professional organizations in the literacy field. This position also requires the faculty to contribute to and participate in the life and development of the Department and University, advise students, engage in accreditation process, support student recruitment and retention efforts, and collaborate with university colleagues, PreK-12 teachers, and community partners.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in Literacy Education, or other education related field with emphasis in literacy education
  • Teaching experience in literacy/language arts classroom(s) K-12
  • Evidence of active scholarship or research in the field of literacy education

Nice To Haves

  • Certification and work experience in reading specialist or language arts consultant positions
  • Experience in educating teachers in literacy diagnosis/intervention and/or literacy instruction
  • Evidence of teaching in higher education
  • Experience with accreditation process
  • Experience with program development and/or program coordination
  • Professional publications
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including English learners, and struggling readers/writers

Responsibilities

  • Teach literacy education courses (undergraduate and graduate)
