About The Position

THE UNIVERSITY OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA DAVID A. CLARKE SCHOOL OF LAW (UDC LAW) seeks to hire a tenure-track faculty member to join our dynamic and missiondriven community in the 2026-2027 academic year. We are looking broadly for candidates, but welcome applications from aspiring faculty and junior lateral candidates interested in teaching some or all of the following courses: Property Law, Family Law, and Wills, Trusts, and Estates. Candidates must have a J.D. degree and demonstrate high scholarly distinction or promise and a commitment to teaching excellence.

Requirements

  • An earned Juris Doctor degree and be a member in good standing of the Bar of the District of Columbia or other state.
  • The potential for teaching excellence and scholarly growth; and
  • Demonstrated professional competence in the relevant field and the potential for professional growth.
  • An earned Juris Doctor degree and be a member in good standing of the Bar of the District of Columbia or other state.
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence and a record of scholarship;
  • Demonstrated professional competence in the relevant field, demonstrated professional attainment, and the potential for continued professional growth; and
  • At least three years of full-time teaching experience at an accredited law school.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned School of Law courses in the JD program.
  • Maintain proficiency in the use of software and technology in the classroom.
  • Research, write, and publish scholarly output in academic or professional journals, books, media outlets, and/or electronic media in a manner that is consistent with the direction of the academic program.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the relevant instructional areas by reading current literature, collaborating with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences to enhance academic performance.
  • Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, papers, and exams using rubrics and other student-centered approaches.
  • Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
  • Advise and mentor students on academic and career issues.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to address teaching and scholarship issues.
  • Participate in writing grant proposals, as appropriate, to procure external research funding.
  • Serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, program matters, and academic issues.
  • Participate in student recruitment and placement activities.
