The Department of Economics seeks to hire a tenure-track advanced Assistant or tenured Associate Professor in Agricultural Economics. This position is one of six positions in a cluster hire that will have research and teaching responsibilities, along with affiliations with the Center for Agricultural and Rural Development (CARD) and the Iowa State Extension farm management team. The approximate division of responsibilities for this position is 62% extension, 25% research, 8% teaching, and 5% service. The home college for the position is the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The individual in this position is expected to develop a nationally recognized extension and research program in the economics of cooperatives and agricultural supply chains and will hold the Iowa Institute for Cooperatives Endowed Economics Professorship. The extension program will be expected to address critical agricultural issues relevant to the cooperative system at the state, regional, and national level, including the development of leadership, strategic planning, and financial competency skills in cooperative and agribusiness leaders. The individual will maintain one or more active projects under the auspices of the Iowa Agriculture and Home Economics Experiment Station. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate across departments, extension units, and university centers. The research and teaching activities are envisioned to be synergistic with the extension activities. A natural outcome of these activities will be applied extension materials targeting producers, agribusiness professionals, and other relevant groups; original research in agricultural economics leading to publications in appropriate refereed journals and other professional outlets; and presentations at professional conferences. The successful candidate will be expected to generate extramural funds to support extension and research activities. Opportunities will exist to direct graduate student research and serve on graduate academic plan committees. The candidate will also possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. The teaching assignment is expected to be approximately one course per year on average.
