About The Position

The Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (MIME) at The University of Toledo invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Materials, beginning Fall 2026. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate instruction in materials-related areas and will be expected to develop innovative curriculum offerings that align with emerging workforce and industry needs. The appointee will be expected to build an externally funded research program aligned with regional and national priorities in advanced manufacturing, clean energy, mobility, and semiconductors. Research focus areas may include, but are not limited to: Glass sustainability and decarbonization, leveraging the Northwest Ohio Innovation Hub; Ceramics, bio ceramics and biomaterials, and nanomaterials; Advanced composites, polymers, and lightweight structures for EV and aerospace applications; Integration of machine learning, AI, and digital twin approaches into materials discovery and lifecycle management. The faculty will benefit from a competitive start-up package and access to shared core facilities, such as the advanced characterization and testing resources at the Center for Materials and Sensor Characterization (CMSC) within the College of Engineering.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or a closely related field, completed by the start date.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, research, and scholarly productivity.

Nice To Haves

  • Postdoctoral or equivalent research experience.
  • Evidence of securing or contributing to externally funded research.
  • Experience in high-demand areas such as AI-driven materials, digital twins, additive manufacturing, semiconductors, glass technology, or nuclear materials.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring students and/or working with industry partners.
