The Department of Special Education at the University of Kansas is seeking a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor to join our vibrant team dedicated to advancing the field of special education. This full-time position is structured as a 1.0 full-time-equivalent (FTE) role, with responsibilities divided into three main areas: teaching/advising (40%), research/scholarship (40%), and service (20%). The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in high-incidence special education, advise students at various academic levels, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our educator preparation programs. Specific course assignments will be determined by the department chair in consultation with the faculty member. In the teaching component, the candidate will be responsible for mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, advising those pursuing teaching licensure or specialization endorsements, and supervising research projects. The research aspect of the role involves directing a program of research in special education, producing publishable research, and securing external funding to support these initiatives. The service component includes participating in departmental and university committees, collaborating with faculty and community stakeholders, and contributing to the overall quality and accreditation of our programs. We are particularly interested in candidates who are innovative thinkers with a passion for unlocking the potential of all learners. The ideal candidate will have experience in intensive instruction and intervention, educational policy, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
