About The Position

The Department of Physics in the College of Science, at the University of Texas at Arlington, invites applications for a Assistant or Associate, Tenure Track in Space Physics. Areas of interest include but are not limited to the Earth’s ionosphere, thermosphere, and space weather forecasting. The position will be supported by the National Science Foundation ( NSF ) under the Faculty Development in Geospace Science ( FDSS ) program and under this support a new Center for Space Physics and Data Science will be built up at UTA . The successful candidate will be able to contribute substantially either in modeling or data analysis and enhance the research ability of the team in the related area, such as the multi-scale ionosphere thermosphere coupling and NASA Geospace Dynamics Constellation ( GDC ) satellite mission related research activities. In accordance with USCIS regulations, successful applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Requirements

  • Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent in space physics or a closely related field
  • some postdoctoral experience is desired
  • The candidates must demonstrate their commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service
  • The successful candidate will be expected to provide outstanding qualifications that share the University’s core values of high standards of excellence in teaching, and display innovative and collaborative research, and service combined with fostering an open and engaging environment

Nice To Haves

  • The candidate who has ties to one or more major missions (such as GDC ) and who has a strong background in data sciences for the ionosphere and thermosphere studies will be preferred.

Responsibilities

  • establish an independent and externally funded research program in space physics
  • provide research and mentoring opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students
  • teach physics related courses at the undergraduate and graduate level
