The Department of Physical Therapy and Human Movement Sciences (DPTHMS) at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine, is seeking applications for a full-time, tenured position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the area of Movement and Rehabilitation Sciences. This role is designed for senior scientists whose research programs include a translational component, which can encompass a wide range of studies from the mechanisms of neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disorders to clinical studies involving patients. A strong record of federal grant support is essential for candidates applying for this position. A significant aspect of this role will involve leadership in further developing the Department's already robust research program, with a specific focus on expanding translational research initiatives. While teaching responsibilities will be modest, they will primarily involve courses for graduate students in physical therapy, neuroscience, and/or biomedical engineering. The ideal candidate will hold a PhD or a combined PhD/PT degree, demonstrating a strong track record of scholarly productivity, grant support, and mentorship of trainees. The DPTHMS is part of a vibrant educational and cultural community at Northwestern University, located in Chicago, Illinois, along the renowned Magnificent Mile. The Department boasts a talented faculty engaged in research, teaching, and clinical practice, with opportunities for collaboration across various departments including Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering, Radiology, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Neurology, Physiology, Orthopedics, and Neurological Surgery. Faculty members are involved in two NIH-funded graduate student training programs in movement and rehabilitation sciences, focusing on understanding movement disorders in individuals with neuromuscular dysfunction, such as stroke, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, Parkinson's disease, and musculoskeletal injuries, utilizing engineering, physical, and pharmacological approaches.
