About The Position

The University of Hawai'i is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor (GI Core Faculty) in the Department of Medicine. This role is part-time with a full-time equivalency of 0.15 FTE and is non-tenure track. The position is temporary and annually renewable, subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability, with a start date of July 1, 2025. The successful candidate will be responsible for curriculum, administration, and evaluation in medical education, teaching medical students, residents, and fellows, and conducting research and scholarly activities.

Requirements

  • MD degree or equivalent medical degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Current certification in the subspecialty (Gastroenterology) by the American Board of Internal Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine.
  • Current Hawaii medical license by date of hire.
  • Demonstrated ability in teaching and patient care.
  • Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience with curriculum development and evaluation.
  • Credentialed with local Hospital Health Systems.
  • 1-3 years of experience directly related to teaching, clinical, and research endeavors.
  • Familiarity with curriculum development and evaluation, provider of educational activities as required by the LCME, ACGME, and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education.
  • Staff physician privileges at teaching medical center where GI Fellows are being trained.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for curriculum, administration, and evaluation in medical undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate education.
  • Assists with the development, support and attainment of goals and objectives to support the fellowship.
  • Teach medical students, graduate students, post-graduate residents, fellows, and faculty, providing formative feedback and upholding professionalism.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the delivery of safe, equitable, high-quality, cost-effective, patient-centered care.
  • Administer and maintain an educational environment conducive to educating fellows.
  • Regularly participates in organized clinical discussions, rounds, journal clubs, and conferences.
  • Participate in faculty development.
  • Supervise and teach upper and lower GI Endoscopy to GI Fellows.
  • Conduct and promote research and scholarly activities.
  • Contribute scholarly activities required for accreditation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
