About The Position

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Assistant/Associate Professor- Computer Science at its Detroit campus location. Located in Midtown Detroit, the Department of Computer Science in James and Patricia Anderson College of Engineering at Wayne State University (WSU) invites applications for an open-rank tenure-track faculty position, beginning in Fall 2026. For senior candidates, appointment with tenure is possible. We particularly encourage applications from candidates whose research focuses on Computer Systems (including real-time and embedded systems, distributed systems, networking, high-performance and parallel computing, Internet of Things, and computer architecture) or Software Engineering (including program analysis, software testing, maintenance and evolution, software security, human aspects of software engineering, and data-drive/AI approaches to improving software quality and productivity). Outstanding candidates whose expertise complements existing departmental strengths in areas such as artificial intelligence, smart mobility, and autonomous driving will receive special consideration. The Department of Computer Science at Wayne State has 24 tenure-track faculty and 7 teaching faculty, with 5 NSF CAREER awards and over $2.5M in annual research expenditure. The Department offers two B.S. degree programs, several M.S. degree programs (traditional and online), including M.S. in AI, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science. Currently, we have approximately 1,000 undergraduate students,120 M.S. and 60 Ph.D. students. The department is committed to building a diverse faculty preeminent in its missions of research, teaching, and service to the community. There are several satellite cities within 25 miles of metro-Detroit that are ranked as the top-100 most suitable for living cities (e.g., Troy, Ann Arbor, Birmingham, Novi) with the nation's finest school districts.

Requirements

  • Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field and demonstrate a strong potential for excellence in both research and teaching.
