The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) seeks to hire a faculty member with expertise in the broad areas of quantum device engineering and quantum system engineering. Desired areas of specialization include integrated photonics and circuits for quantum technologies, incorporation of quantum materials into optical, opto-electronic, and electronic devices, qubit implementations using neutral atoms, trapped ions, superconductors, semiconductors, or wide-bandgap crystals, quantum instrumentation including cryogenic hardware, and architectures for quantum computing, networking, and sensing. The successful candidate will build a research program in ECE at UW-Madison that heavily leverages the regional quantum ecosystem through the Wisconsin Quantum Institute (WQI). Experimental research will heavily leverage the Wisconsin Centers for Nanoscale Technology, particularly the Nanoscale Fabrication Center, a 10,000 sq. ft cleanroom on campus. Outstanding candidates at all levels (Assistant, Associate, Full Professor rank) will be considered. The ECE Department at UW-Madison has a long tradition of excellence in educating, mentoring, and inspiring future leaders; conducting research that is of vital importance to society; and serving Wisconsin, our nation, and the world. Our 48 tenure-track/tenured faculty (more than 35% of which are women) and 10 instructional faculty are leaders in their fields, respected nationally and internationally for their innovative research and teaching excellence. Approximately 400 graduate students and over 1100 undergraduate students are enrolled in our top-ranked degree programs. ECE is a member department of WQI, a research hub at UW-Madison dedicated to advancing fundamental and applied quantum science and engineering. Through WQI, ECE faculty are connected to the regional and broader quantum ecosystem including the Chicago Quantum Exchange. In addition, ECE faculty are members of National Quantum Information Science Centers, including Q-NEXT and Hybrid Quantum Architectures and Networks (HQAN). Candidates who have specific goals and plans that are aligned with the ECE department's mission and whose research and teaching interests fall within the areas described above are strongly encouraged to apply.
