About The Position

The Assistant/Associate Extension Agent (Agriculture & Natural Resources) is a non-tenure track, agent level position focused on providing research-based information and educational opportunities to stakeholders in Tensas Parish, Louisiana. The agent will work closely with other agents and stakeholders to develop and implement extension programming, establish advisory committees, and disseminate information through various channels. The role requires effective communication skills, teamwork, and a commitment to professional development in agriculture and natural resources.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree in agronomy, crop science, soil science, agribusiness, agricultural sciences, pest management, biological sciences, agricultural education, or closely related areas.
  • An overall GPA of at least 2.5 for undergraduate studies and 3.0 for graduate work attempted, or a master's degree with a GPA of at least 3.0.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with and through others with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Provide stakeholders with research-based information and educational opportunities through on-farm visits, demonstrations, workshops, and meetings.
  • Establish advisory committees to identify clientele needs and develop extension programming.
  • Implement a system of program evaluation and report program accomplishments annually.
  • Disseminate LSU AgCenter recommendations through newsletters, factsheets, social media, and articles.
  • Contribute to the parish web page and assist in providing pesticide re-certification training.
  • Engage with agricultural organizations and associations to become involved in the agricultural community.
  • Work cooperatively with other Extension faculty and perform tasks assigned by supervisors.
  • Travel overnight and work evenings and weekends as needed to meet clientele needs.
