About The Position

Reporting to the University Archivist, the Assistant Archivist/ Digital Projects Curator will process and maintain archival collections, create finding aids, digitize and create metadata for online collections, assist with preservation activities, and assist patrons and researchers. The Assistant Archivist/ Digital Projects Curator will assist the University Archivist with special projects, research, exhibits, and other assignments as needed. The part-time Assistant Archivist will work 21 hours a week, Monday-Friday, between the hours of 8:30 a.m.to 5:30 p.m. or at specially scheduled times.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in public history, art history, Science with a specialization in Archives or Museum Studies or equivalent from an accredited educational institution.
  • Alternatively, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
  • Strong interpersonal, written and communication skills are required. The candidate must be able to learn and perform assigned tasks with little supervision and be able to work cooperatively with colleagues, staff, students and patrons.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community.

Responsibilities

  • Arranges and describes archival collections from individual schools, departments, and committees.
  • Identify, scan, upload and create metadata for digital and online collections.
  • Prepares finding-aids and other research tools for processed collections.
  • Provides reference or retrieval assistance for patrons requesting archival information. Patrons may visit the Archives or make requests by phone, e-mail or fax.
  • Assists with the preservation of documents, books, photographs, artifacts, and other materials.
  • Helps to design exhibits and displays for special events in the library and on the university Campus.
  • Supervise Graduate student interns and temporary employees and assist with grant writing.
  • Assists with large research projects
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
