Role The Assistant Accounting Manager supports the Accounting Manager in overseeing daily accounting operations of thecredit union. This role performs and reviews complex accounting functions, assists with financial reporting and compliance, and helps ensure accurate records, strong internal controls, and timely completion of accounting activities. The assistant manager will be responsible to drive performance, production and deadlines using leadership and coaching skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred)
  • 3–5 years of accounting experience; financial institution experience preferred
  • Prior lead or senior accountant experience a plus
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and general ledger accounting
  • Familiarity with NCUA regulations and financial institution reporting preferred
  • Strong Excel skills; experience with accounting and core banking systems
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Effective communication and time management skills
  • Must be a self-starter
  • Experience leading teams and providing exceptional service to others
  • Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 5 lbs.
  • Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situations.
  • Must be able to operate routine office equipment including CRTs, typewriters, telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator.
  • Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary.
  • Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management.
  • Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
  • Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.
  • Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team.
  • Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions.
  • Must be able to complete complex mathematical calculations and spell accurately.
  • Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence.
  • Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public.
  • Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace.
  • Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities.
  • Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or progress toward CPA preferred
  • Prior lead or senior accountant experience a plus
  • Familiarity with NCUA regulations and financial institution reporting preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Prepare and review general ledger reconciliations for accuracy and completeness
  • Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP and credit union policies
  • Support preparation of financial statements and management reports
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with NCUA regulations and accounting standards
  • Support preparation of regulatory reports, including Call Reports
  • Assist with internal and external audits and regulatory examinations
  • Help maintain and improve internal controls and accounting procedures
  • Analyze financial data and investigate variances
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Support ALM, investment, and fixed asset accounting as needed
  • Provide guidance and review work of accounting staff
  • Collaborate with other departments on accounting-related matters
  • Participate in system upgrades, process improvements, and automation initiatives
