About The Position

The Assistant Academic Advisor position at the Center for First Year Advising within the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin is designed to provide comprehensive academic advising to students. The advisor will work closely with students in both individual and group settings, ensuring they receive accurate and timely information regarding their courses and degree requirements. This role is pivotal in facilitating small learning communities and supporting various programmatic initiatives aimed at enhancing the academic experience of first-year students. The advisor will also be responsible for integrating the priorities of the College and Undergraduate Education into their advising practices, emphasizing a student-centered approach. In addition to advising, the Assistant Academic Advisor will assist with and lead projects and special initiatives within the Center for Entry-Level Advising (CELA). This includes attending meetings, serving on committees, and completing professional development trainings. The advisor will act as a point of contact for specific majors, which may involve communication with other advising centers. They will also facilitate multiple sections of First-Year Interest Groups (FIG) and the CNS Cornerstone small community cohorts, presenting academic-oriented material through workshops and new student orientations. Other duties may include supporting special projects and staffing events within the College of Natural Sciences. The position requires a commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all students, aligning with the College's mission to celebrate diversity and ensure that every individual feels a sense of belonging. The advisor will be expected to work in-person on the University of Texas at Austin campus, contributing to a collaborative and engaging academic community.
