The Assignments Editor is the frontline of information gathering and story assignments. This role involves tracking stories from various sources including government agencies, social media, wire services, and community groups. The Assignments Editor dispatches photographers, reporters, and other personnel to cover stories, coordinates logistics for news personnel, and participates in daily story assignment discussions. They are responsible for story development, providing updates on stories, and following up on previous stories. Additionally, the role includes editing video clips as assigned and has the potential for writing stories for the web and other eMedia platforms. Interaction with viewers and users on social media sites and by phone in a professional, customer service-based manner is also a key aspect of the position. Other duties may be assigned by management.
